Founded in 970AD and standing in the shadow of the magnificent Ely Cathedral, King’s Ely is one of the oldest schools in England. Best known for music, STEM, drama, art and textiles, our 1,150 students, representing 40 nationalities, enjoy a broad and balanced curriculum. The City of Ely is both beautiful and historic. It offers a safe and green environment and is accessible, by train, to Cambridge (15 minutes) and London (70 minutes).

In the 2025 summer examinations, 48% of A level grades were A* or A demonstrating a strong academic rigour of which the school is rightly proud. 90% of students secured places at their first-choice universities. Students have access to over 30 different sports including volleyball, basketball, rowing, tennis and football. In addition, there are countless after school clubs and enrichment activities. The students who get the most out of a King’s Ely experience, are those who are prepared to give things a go; those who try something new; those who arrive to make memories and friends for life!

There are currently 180 students who choose to board in our seven boarding houses. Our international pupils are fully integrated into the day-to-day life of King’s Ely. We are proud of them all, of their cultures and of the experiences that they bring to share with the school community. No other school's pupils are the same and no two King's Ely students are alike. They are, as a result, Uniquely King's.
